I Can’t Wait to Share…
We Heart Camp Paumalu
Donning shovels and fence post hole diggers, Troop 558 learned all about the hard work that goes into maintaining hiking trails in September. The girls are digging 3-foot deep holes for the installation of a new trail step on the Whispering Pines trail at Camp Paumalu.








Share The Merry

Senior/Ambassador Troop 164 from the Kolekole Service Unit spent Saturday, December 20th helped at the "Share the Merry" event at Kakaako Gateway Park.  The girls brought two hams and lots of Christmas cookies to share with the homeless in the area. This event was sponsored by Urban Aloha and In the Streets. The girls spent the afternoon sorting and bagging up toiletry items. Pictured: Leader Mary, Marleigh, Morgan, Katie, Abigail, Jessica, Leader Jennifer and Dallas.

Samoas Get Screen Time
We have some exciting news to share! Food Factory USA will feature Samoas on an upcoming episode. Be sure to tune in and see how the Samoas make it from the oven to the box. The episode will premiere on Saturday, December 20, at 9:30 p.m. ET on the FYI Network, part of the A+E family.

Serving at the Shelter
Troop 188 decorated 300 cupcakes at their troop Christmas party to serve at IHS shelter and they also served a meal on December 16th .  “The girl scouts saw firsthand just how appreciative the homeless were for the wonderful meal they served,” shared Marianna. 






Meeting the Mayor
Troop 832 visited Hawaii Island’s Mayor, Billy Kenoi on October 23. “In between meetings on road construction, lava updates, parks issues, and solid waste challenges, I got to hang out with Girl Scouts and Brownie Troop 832! Their questions were tougher than the Council or the Media. They were really fun and engaging as they pursued their government service badge. Reminded me why we so lucky to call Hawaii home!” said Kenoi.

I Can’t Wait to Share………
Troop 2028 of Hawaii Island collected items for Stockings for Soldiers.  The troop collected items from Walmart, KTA, Choicemart, Keauhou Farmer's Market and the Veteran's Cemetery.  The troop also walked around town to various businesses collecting items, leaving flyers and money collection jars, sent mailings and created newspaper and radio psa’s.  “It was sure a lot of work but also a lot of fun and the feedback from the community this year were simply amazing,” said troop leader, Nicki.  112 boxes are being shipped to military troops in Qatar. 

 Scout Troop 377 held banners for the Honolulu City Lights Electric Parade on December 6. Elizabeth, Fariha, Hannah, Randi and Sydney had a great time along with leader Dianne, and parent volunteers Joan and Josie.

  • The digital Cookie Program was officially announced on 12/1!  It’s a very exciting time for the Girl Scouts!  If you have any media inquiries, please refer them to Lila Frisbie at 675-5529 or lifrisbie@girlscouts-hawaii.org.
  •  Digital Cookie will be available to the consumer between Feb.     6th and Mar. 15th. 
  • Cookie Season Booth Sale Sign Ups are just around the corner!  To qualify to participate in the first round of selection on 1/12/14, please register your Girl Scout for the 2015 membership year by Dec. 19th at:  http://girlscouts-hawaii.org/gs-account/.  If you encounter problems, please submit a help ticket or call the help desk at 380-6665.

December 13, Saturday- 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Kalihi Palama Library.  Girl Scout Gold Award Booths- Hannah is presenting Help Protect the Ocean: Teaching our youth about protecting our oceans and marine life; Joy is presenting the Walk Away Don’t Ever Look Back – WADELB : Teaching our youth about predators/harassment and how to avoid it; Randi is presenting The Food You 8: Learn healthy food and fun things to stay healthy and Fariha will present Education is Priority: Learn about education in third world countries and  how you can make an impact.

Girl Scout daisy troop 1263 from Pennsylvania would like to start a pen pal exchange with a daisy troop in Hawaii.  Troop 1263 has 5 daisy girls. Join generationOn in giving back this holiday season by participating in The Joy Maker Challenge. For each youth who volunteers from November 10th—December 19th, Hasbro will donate a toy or game to Toys for Tots.  We know that the Girl Scouts works to help girls become responsible and committed members of their communities. The Joy Maker Challenge provides a free and easy way to engage girls in rewarding community service and doubles the impact of their work!

1.       Visit generationOn microsite (www.generationon.org/joymaker) to sign-up.
2.       Complete a service project (if you are already doing holiday service, simply share the story of the work you’ve already done/have planned to do).
3.       Share your story for a chance to win great prizes, including $1000 grant and $10,000 worth of toys and games to donate locally.

Sharing Our Harvest: Homeless

Troop 377 fed the homeless in Kakaako on November 30th.   Elizabeth, Joy and Fariha played the ukulele and Marisa sang.  All the girls including Hannah and Randi fed the families and ate with them.  Dianna Bowen-Coleman said, “They (people being fed) were so grateful and so overwhelmed with the spirit of the girls towards them. “


 

The troop also collected plastic lids and sorted it for B.E.A.C.H.
