Miss MEDIA Premier Event!

• Tour KITV news station and meet Ann Sterling, TV anchor  • Learn all about a career in television and how they produce the news  • You’ll also interact with several television executive women and learn about a variety of careers in media.    • The President of Becker Communications will offer training in public speaking   • And time permitting we hope to film many of you practicing a weather or news segment on camera.

Girl Scouts of Hawai`i Launches Annual Campaign

Girl Scouts of Hawai`i is excited to share the launch of our Annual Campaign. During this campaign, it is our goal to raise funds to further support the growth and development of girls in Hawaii. GSH has been serving Hawaii girls since 1917 and needs your help to continue to do so. Girls in Hawai`i, grades K-12, rank 27th out of the 50 states on an overall index of well-being that includes measures of girls’ physical health and safety, economic well-being, education, emotional health and extra-curricular activities. We are committed to ensuring every girl reaches her fullest potential and we need your help to do so!

No matter how big or small- every dollar counts. Donations will go to support the many programs and camp facilities that GSH offers. All girls will participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience All donations received will  stay in Hawaii and go to support our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Community Service Opportunity!

Susan G. Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure is looking for Girl Scout Troops willing to make ribbon lei for the breast cancer survivors to receive on race day.  The supplies will be provided.  They just need willing hands and giving hearts.  If you are interested, please contact Brigid at brigidho@gmail.com as soon as possible as race day is Sun Oct 18th.  Mahalo!

GIRL SCOUTS ON MAUI “TRY ON” DIFFERENT CAREERS WITH THE BARBIE – BE ANYTHING, DO EVERYTHING PROGRAM

 

 

Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi recently held its Barbie – Be Anything, Do Everything   Program for Daisies and Brownies. The program encourages girls to explore a variety of career fields which they otherwise might not have been exposed. Just as Barbie can “try on” different jobs, so too did the Girl Scouts, as they learned more about computer programming, nursing, gardening and aviation. Through the Barbie – Be Anything, Do Everything Program, scouts learned about these four fields from professionals, and then applied their newfound knowledge to exercises in those careers. Their “practice” jobs included designing and coding their own story on the computer, wrapping ankles with ace bandages, trying on a beekeeper’s outfit, and experimenting with a flight simulator program. Through first-hand exposure to these creative career fields, the scouts learned that they truly can be anything, and do everything they can imagine!

Gold Award Recipient Cori Sutton Earns JABSOM Scholarship

 

From Gold Award-winning Girl Scout to future physician, Cori Sutton of Troop 415 has received a golden opportunity: a four-year full tuition scholarship to the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). She is just one of seven recipients of the Doctor of Medicine Early Acceptance Program, and credits the Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi as key to her success.   For her Gold Award Project, Cori designed an innovative presentation for the Honolulu Zoo entitled “Save the Orangutans: If the Girl Scouts Can Do It, So Can You,” educating visitors about the deforestation caused by palm oil production. She joins the ranks of only six percent of eligible girls nationwide who have earned the prestigious Gold Award. Girl Scouts fostered Cori’s love for community service, and it has played an important role in helping her pursue her dream career as a doctor.   Congratulations to Cori Sutton! We know you will achieve great things in your future!

 

Leading with Courage, Confidence, and character!

On July 24th Elizabeth Coleman (a Girl Advocate on the Girl Scouts of Hawai’i Board of Directors) was given the opportunity to present in front of the Generations United Nations Conference.  Her remarks will be included in the final report to the United Nations, which will be presented at the General Assembly in New York City.  Great job, Elizabeth!
