The Hawaii Bicycling League is hosting free cycling workshops for riders 13 and up to promote safe road cycling. These courses are great for students who ride to school and soon-to-be college students.
Cycling 101 and Efficient Riding Skills workshops equip riders with the confidence to ride safely on Hawai’i’s roads (with cars!). It begins with coverage of safe cycling practices, rights as a cyclist, rules of the road, equipment safety checks, lane positioning and more. The workshop then goes over drills in a safe environment and ends with a light ride to practice what we’ve learned. This bicycling workshop begins with coverage of safe cycling practices in a classroom setting then moves to a practice area for riding drills and covers things like scanning and signaling. Then to wrap things up and reinforce what we’ve learned we will finish with a group ride through the neighborhood, combining classroom knowledge and road skills. Additional scheduled classes available on the website.
