Girl Scouts Give Back!
The Girl
Scouts of Hawai’i Kauai have been very busy in the month of May! After a successful cookie season, the girls
decided they wanted to give back to their community. Over the course of one weekend they managed
to make that goal come to life.
Five girls from the after school leadership
programs at Kalaheo and Eleele schools were able to collect more than 325
pounds of food to help feed some of Kauai’s hungry people. The
delivery, made to Kauai Independent Food Bank on May 2nd, will most
likely go toward the Keiki Backpack Program, where keiki receive a backpack
of healthy food and snacks to carry them through the weekend.
 The next day eighteen
scouts from Kapaa, Kalaheo, as well as girls from the Kapaa and Wilcox afterschool
leadership programs delivered their donation to the Healing Horses Kauai
facility in Waialua. They were able to
collect $450 worth of supplies, which included necessities such as feed,
shampoo, conditioner, buckets, and rakes. Afterward, girls received
instruction on horses, and were even able to feed and water the animals, even
getting to paint a horse. This donation
will help Healing Horses continue running their program, which assists in the
emotional, physical, mental, and social well-being of Kauai’s youth and
disabled community through equine-assisted activities.
