The Girl Scouts from Troop 122 of Hickam  - Olivia (Livi) Hodges, Isabella (Bella) McRae, Emily Hanks, and Mackenzie (Mack) Dawson - are on their way to earning their Silver award by making raising awareness for organ and tissue donation. Olivia learned of Legacy of Life through her health class and rallied her fellow troop mates for the cause.
“It was something we all agreed we wanted to help with because it saves lives, so people who are waiting for a transplant get a second chance at life,” said Olivia.
The girls all submitted written testimony in support of bills introduced this legislative session in the Hawaii State House of Representatives and Senate to require organ and tissue donation information be included in the State's Driver Education curriculum. They also attended the hearings on the bill which helped them understand the process of how bills become law. Sadly both bills were deferred this session.
The girls also helped out at Legacy of Life Hawai'i events, such as the Great Aloha Run Expo, passing out materials and lanyards to attendees. The Public Education and Outreach team at Legacy of Life Hawaii looks forward to working with the girls on more events and activities before the school year ends.
