Hilo troop 254 provides meals to community
Girl Scouts of Troop 254 cooked, plated, and walked around
Hilo distributing 29 plates of homemade food to the homeless/hungry in the area. They made chili and rice, with a
side of homegrown green beans, homemade corn bread, and brownies. They sent the
meals with cans of juice, and hand drawn cards. They
were worried they would have trouble
distributing so many, but could easily have
done more.
The moments were so poignant and
the girls cheerful community spirit and the respectful way they interacted with
the hungry was amazing. They took time to
listen to stories, give and receive hugs, sing songs on request, and
participate in prayers. One veteran told a girl
she reminded him of his two daughters, who both had died in military service.
He showed his tattoo of them, and asked her to sing for him. She launched into
"Bulletproof" and he stood there with tears streaming down his face. Troop leader Tantra says, “I am so lucky to be
part of this troop, with these girls who so embody the Girl Scout Law! They
inspire me!! Moments like yesterday make the madness of cookie season totally
worthwhile. Thank you for all you do to support us and make our activities
happen. You are touching lives!”
